TENSES

This is the article about Ferris published by Steve. Unfortunately, he spilled some coffee on it and some words, expressions, etc. are missing. Try and patch it all up.

Ferris left  home without tellling his parents. He studies/ has been studying  immersion journalism in California, and he wanted  to immerse himself in the life of wartime Iraq. When I met him, he had been in Bagdad for a couple of days. I was reading  a report about a missing young American of Iraqi origin when somebody knocked  at the door of my hotel room in Bagdad. After listening to him telling me the reasons for his presence in a war zone, I told him that not only was he  jeopardizing his life, but also the lives of others. Later, he was driven to the American Embassy from where he flew / was flown  back home. I hope that his odyssey will have / had the impact he expected. Ferrris struck / strikes me as a dedicated youth. He is always asking questions. I wish I had a son like him.

HYPOTHESES

* Now that he’s back, if I were  his parents, I would ground  him for the rest of his life.

* If I had been  his mother, when I got news of his presence in Iraq, I would have flown to bring him back straight away.

* If Ferris had been kidnapped  by Muslim fundamentalists, it would not have helped  the Iraqi cause at all.
